The Pantone Palette 2020
Eeeeeek! I’ve been waiting, and they wasted no time in delivering. The Pantone palette was announced in a press release Friday, September 6th. As usual, 12 colors were selected. One of these will be named color of the year 2020. Following close behind, their four chosen neutrals have also been selected.
Your Pantone Palette 2020…
Let’s talk about this. I’m going to sum it up as Modern Familiarity + Charming Comfort. With five food references, these colors are meant to strike a chord, drum up a memory. There’s easy hints at nostalgia, with faded denim and biscay green and mosaic blue…why? Those shades are classic cars and the era of the late 50s and 60s. And, coral pink? Did you ever get the opportunity to see your grandmother’s bathroom in coral pink? Maybe biscay green? What goes around, comes around.
The Favored Neutrals for 2020…
There’s always one surprising neutral. Lark steps in for this year’s chosen neutral “color.” It’s probably my favorite of the neutrals this year, I think the muted look of mustard looks velvety and rich. No true gray, no brown–Ash is in place, as a play on greige. Is it a brown? Is it a gray? I can see definite purple in the undertones.
What’s My Pick for Pantone Color of the Year?
I’m never right. But, I always pick a favorite. This year, I’m going with Chive. It’s grounded and deep, solid and soothing all at once. And, since it’s the color of my eyes, it’s one of the colors I love to wear.
So, bring on the Chive! Which color do I think they’ll pick? Flame Scarlet seems to be the one they identified with “confidence and determination,” a cultural and social reference, so that would be my guess. We won’t know until December, but we can have fun with this new lineup until then!
What\’s Your Favorite? What’s Your Pick?
Which color do you love from this year’s Pantone Palette? Do you have a prediction? I’d love to know! Drop me a comment here, or on Instagram, and we will see who knows their colors.
