The winner of Color of the Year 2022 is…
With this color announcement, the Pantone Color Institute has done something they’ve never done before. They typically choose the Color of the Year from their list of colors chosen for New York Fashion Week. But, in an attempt to capture the global transformation of today’s ever-changing cultural landscape, they created a NEW color.
This was no small feat. Working with color experts and textile artists, they balanced the crowd-favorite blue with red violet. The trustworthy vibe that the blue color family is known for combines with those red undertones, resulting in an exciting realm of possibilities.
You’ve probably heard of the color periwinkle before. Probably not because it’s my mom’s favorite color, but more often considered in nature, like the Vinca plant that blooms with delicate flowers of this unique shade.
This choice replaces the dynamic duo of the 2021 Colors of the Year, Illuminating & Ultimate Gray.
What Does Very Peri Represent?
A dynamic duo in and of itself, Pantone is taking the unknown landscape of the future and mesmerizing us with the calm confidence that Very Peri invites. In a presentation by Leatrice Eiseman, the color they’ve created is meant to encourage personal creativity, while welcoming curiosity. As we rewrite our lives in a world that has been upended over the last 20 months, Pantone took a step to embrace the unknown, to take a risk and to challenge tradition. Transforming the process of what has become comfortable over the last 20 years in the industry, they’re re-imagining design. Isn’t that what we look to them to do? Isn’t this the reason so many of us watch the palettes, listen to the experts and scroll through endless inspiration? Color is live-giving. It’s refreshing. Color defines us–our creations, our personalities, our moods.
And, now…without further ado, let’s dive into interior inspiration from Very Peri.
Very Peri is confidence. It represents a mood, either the one you feel, or the one you want to feel.
Surrounded by Color
Wall to wall is a bold move, but periwinkle creates an atmosphere of quiet elegance.
A Global Transformation
The purple color family transcends design…it extends itself across styles and beyond boundaries. Versatile and well-loved, it encourages self-expression. And, as the world struggles to define the unknown, this color family brings creativity to the process, capable of expressing a wide range of statements: bold or quiet, casual or sophisticated, modern or traditional.
Using colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel reminds us that there’s comfort in what’s familiar. Harmony is brought to spaces through a balance of softness and intentional definition.
But, the fun and excitement of Very Peri invites us to bring colors together that might seem unlikely pairs. It works in a beautifully abstract way.
It can be the backdrop or the accent. But, no matter which, you’ll notice it. One way you’ll see this color in the coming year is styled with neutrals. The design will result in understated elegance with a pop of color.
Across styles, statements, room and emotion, a splash of color will always enhance the look, set the mood, create the conversation.
There’s a whole lot of interiors in the coming year that are going to make us say, “Ooooh La La!”
Periwinkle holds both masculine & feminine beauty, often described as both courageous and creative. Interiors can be expected to feature glamorous accents with a sophisticated air.
And, from fabulous to fairy tale, Very Peri will be easily invited into a range of design scenes, including the playful aesthetic.
What have we learned over the past 20 months? Home is our sanctuary. We must surround ourselves with what we love. Very Peri is the ideal color to invent ourselves, to write our own story.
Sometimes described as “futuristic,” the color purple can feel modern and sleek. But, it holds a timeless charm reserved for very few. It can refresh a historic trend, giving a nod to the past and future all in the same breath.
From Daring Curiosity to Carefree Confidence
Wallpaper is more popular than ever. What better way to accent spaces than with patterns & color.
Metallics just shine with the purple color family. Maybe it’s the regal history behind shades of purple, but gold, silver, bronze, brass and copper…they all work.
The whimsy of colors invites personality and charm–a home that makes you happy.
