Artist Inspired Bedroom Makeover
The Spring One Room Challenge is just beginning, and I’m taking this opportunity to do an Artist Inspired Bedroom Makeover for my seven year old. He’s the left handed, color loving, creative genius of the family. And, his room was never really decorated. So, here we go!
The Mood Board
He loves blue–a boy after his Mama’s heart. I’m going to do a feature wall behind his bed. But, since his headboard covers a large amount of the wall, it’s going to be a paint feature. I don’t want to throw a huge expense at something that won’t be seen. I’m loving the idea of an ombre wall.
I’m choosing to go with the wood tones that feature a hint of gray–it’s actually his headboard that drove me to find my favorite stain–the Aged Barrel from Minwax. Be prepared to see it used again during this project!
His Special Corner
Like Dexter’s room, I plan to create a hangout space for him. As the kids get older, I want them to have a quiet spot of their own to read, play video games or chat with friends. I’ll be hanging this World Market “pendant shade” light above the chair. This blue Amazon chair looks comfy and unique, fitting the artist inspired bedroom theme I’m trying for.
Why an Artist Inspired Bedroom?
It can be tough to narrow down the theme for a seven year old, and I\ve gone back and forth. While he loves Sonic the Hedgehog, I couldn’t quite commit to a video game theme, especially one as fast-paced as Sonic. (Don’t worry–I’ll be giving a nod to Sonic!)
I decided to think about his personality, and what makes him unique. His love languages are affection + quality time. He loves to travel and experience life with people. And, he’s an artist by nature. He’s just had his own trend-setting vibe since day one.
And, then, just a couple weeks ago, he brought home–yet another–gorgeous piece of artwork from school. I know I’m biased, but the kid’s got talent. I decided to celebrate it. The idea of the Artist Inspired bedroom was born. I’m going to work in some adventure, travel–and touches of gold. It’ll work–I promise!
Stay Tuned!
I’ll be adding photography on a regular basis on Instagram. Come say hello, and show me what you’re up to!
