Cozy Basement Design: Mood Board
On the first day of fall this year, the temperature dropped at least 20 degrees. It was as if Mother Nature shouted…”We’re done here. Goodbye, summer!” Let’s just say the timing couldn’t be better to start the next One Room Challenge. This fall, I’m creating a cozy basement design in our already-finished-but-pretty-bland basement.
The Mood Board
Nothing starts a project off quite like a mood board full of elements that spark joy down deep in your soul. Plush blankets, red wine, a fire in the fireplace, low lighting…I can’t think of anything that would upgrade the space more. Okay, okay…maybe some wall features.
The Before? UGHHHHH.
The basement has come a long way. It went from a dark, cold unfinished space, to a wonderful living space that the children have ruled for the past eight years. It took six months from the moment we started finishing until the carpet was in, and the wine was in place.
The space is much more “lived in” now, with furniture and toys EVERYWHERE. I did a huge purge last fall, and I did a large purge already this school year. But, the toy and stuff that children have. I’ll be doing a good deal of organizing and donating in the months to come.
I’ve Got Big Plans…
For the cozy basement design, I’m planning A LOT. We’ll see how much of it comes to life.
- Paint the entire space with Silver City by Behr
- Barn door over built-in bookshelf
- Built-in entertainment center
- Fireplace insert
- Feature wall on wall with windows
- Art features on sides of wine cellar
- Wine cellar makeover
- Replace couches with a sectional
- Decorate!
How about that for a list? Doesn’t that sound like the perfect way to spend the next eight weeks of my life? Come join the fun on Instagram. Follow along for the fix-ups, the mess-ups and the final reveal!
