Planning the Fireplace Wall Build

What a week! It’s Week 4 of the One Room Challenge…we’re halfway, folks! I certainly don’t feel halfway done. I’m hoping that by tackling the plans for the Fireplace Wall Build that I can get much farther ahead than I am right now.

Who Wants a Fireplace Wall?

I do! I do! Annnnnd…apparently so does everyone else on Instagram. That’s great–that means I’m in line with the times. It’s also great for planning. I didn’t have to go far for inspiration and varied design. I’m going to add a few accounts that really helped me walk through the planning process.

Jonelle of @jonellelovesdiy is a chick worth watching. Not only does she show the process in stories, but she’s constantly building, so you can find a ton of inspo! Her fireplace build caught my eye last spring, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it!

Melissa of @melissa_designsceo has a ton of inspo on her page. It was the floating shelves I had on my mind, alongside the fireplace wall build that made me zone in on her one video. But, don’t worry, she’s got a ton of projects that all have their own style for you to browse.

The company Would Wood Work @wouldwoodworkllc focuses on woodwork & carpentry in the Atlanta area. Their mantle build was an awesome success, and it became a favorite of mine. They’ve just got some great projects to check out.

Ashley of @brunoandlibby always has great inspo for customized DIY projects. I appreciated watching the planning phase of her project, as well as the detail she put into capturing the entire build.

My Own Process

I drew out the plans. I created the look on the wall with tape. I changed my mind.

I called hubs into discuss. We measured, discussed, argued, re-measured.

I took down the tape.

I spent LOTS of time with measurements, drawings, checklists and shopping lists.

I re-taped the wall with the measurements I planned for.

I did a cartwheel…or five. And a handstand. And some yoga poses. I mean, if you can’t celebrate working through DIY designs, what CAN you celebrate?!?!
