Entertainment Center Makeover: Blue Metallic Spray Paint
It’s Week 7 of the One Room Challenge, and I’m in complete denial that we only have a week left. Less than a week here–we leave for vacation on Thursday, so the room will be as done as it’s going to be by Thursday morning. This week, much of the work I did focused on the old entertainment center. I decided to refinish it with a blue metallic spray paint.
Getting Started…
Here\’s the before of the espresso entertainment center:
- I removed the doors, hinges, hardware and shelving.
- I also removed the backing board, which wasn’t in great shape, so I planned to cut new pieces when replacing.
- I lightly sanded the entire thing, including all parts I had removed.
- I cleaned all elements with mineral spirits.
The Paint Process
I am all for a project that is simple, easy and quick. This was really none of those things. (Cue the eye roll.) I got started with the idea that since it\’s spray paint, I could just get going on it–and finish fast. Soon after starting I realized how much time I was going to have to put into it, but by that point, I was already obsessed with the idea of this blue metallic spray paint + gold sheet metal. So, I just charged ahead.
I mean…look at how it glistens!
I started by not priming the shelf–and I realized I HAD TO prime it. Otherwise, the dark espresso finish was going to be impossible to cover up. So, I primed the WHOLE thing.
The Doors & Drawers
I used the blue metallic spray paint on the doors, after removing the glass panel–to be replaced with the gold sheet metal. The hardware and hinged were spray painted gold.
I also chose to paint the interior drawers with the gold spray paint.
Gold Sheet Metal
This copper-colored sheet metal was so pretty…but, it needed to match the other gold elements, so I spray painted this as well. It was easy to size and snip. With the doors already designed to hold glass, I was able to easily insert the metal where the glass was.
The Finish!
I have a piece of artwork from years ago that I love. It’s been living in the basement for awhile…it hasn’t fit in upstairs. But, this is the perfect spot for it. The colors, the style…everything about it is just perfect.
Are you ready for Week 8? It’s coming up fast. Stay tuned on Instagram for all the latest happenings!
