The Basement Makeover Reveal
The end of the Fall 2022 One Room Challenge is here! Boy, was this a whirlwind. Huge thanks to Linda Weinstein the team at ORC, along with media sponsor Apartment Therapy. Let’s dive into the basement makeover and see the transformation that’s taken place + what’s to come!
The Fireplace Built-in + Shiplap Wall
What used to be a TV mounted above a drab, overcrowded & non-functional entertainment center, is now a beautiful built-in fireplace feature with black chevron shiplap.
This was before I tackled the other side of the fireplace…it’s done now!
See the details of how I handled adding shiplap around the door frame.
The Old Metal Windows…Transformation
I wish I had done this YEARS ago. These metal windows were rusty, discolored, chipping…I could go on and on.
I sanded it with sandpaper to remove the chipping, then I vacuumed and cleaned the surface. I taped off the glass, and I taped off the edges around the entire window.
YEARS AGO. I should have done this years ago.
*This is not the permanent area rug…it’s the cover up for the terrible black paint spill that happened when we were hanging the TV. More to come as this situation evolves. LOL
The Black Bookshelf
This was one of the projects I tackled early on in the challenge. I also have a barn door to hang here, but it’s looking so pretty right now, and the kids have actually left it alone, that I’m *kind of* having second thoughts about covering the space up. It went from a train wreck of toys, books and games, to an absolute stunning feature.
The black stain I used was Ebony by Varathane.
The Entertainment Center Refinish
The old, outdated entertainment center got a huge re-vamp. I used blue metallic spray paint + gold sprayed finishes for the hardware and accents. This wall space is on the other side of the basement, so it’s styled as a start as I make plans to continue the makeover in that area.
What’s Next?
I’m so focused on breathing a sigh of relief for all the great aspects of this challenge. But, I will say…there’s so much more to do! And, that’s a good thing–I always love having projects ahead of me.
- The wine cellar makeover (Wallpaper!)
- The small accent walls on the sides of the wine cellar
- Shopping for a sectional
- *Maybe* dyeing the carpet
- Wall stencil on the window wall
- Annnnnd…anything else I can think of as the room evolves
