Viva Magenta: Color of the Year 2023 in Home Decor
The color of the year 2023 has been announced, and it’s everything we’d want it to be! Viva Magenta is a magnificent shade, a wonderful twist on red, full of life and creativity. It’s been described as brave and fearless, electrifying with a rebellious spirit.
“Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.” ~ Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute
Look at this color. It’s not just pretty–it’s powerful, like a force to be reckoned with. It’s alive. It brings emotion center stage–raw, but refined. You can’t look away. And while that might be a turn-off with some colors, this one circles back to beauty. It might not be the color for you, but it’s undeniably a gorgeous color.
Do you know you can buy these specialized color products? Visit the Pantone site, or grab these cute shoes from Cariuma.
It’s placed in the “red” color family, but the color of the year 2023 transcends that identity, with beauty being in the eye of the beholder–while also playing a trick on that eye, depending upon lighting, surroundings and pairings. Was it the right choice for Pantone? You better believe it.
“Viva Magenta is a transformative red tone capable of driving design to create a more positive future. Audacious, witty, and inclusive of all, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same rebellious spirit.”
If that isn’t a sounding call for all of us, I don’t know what is. Check out my Idea List on Amazon if you’d like to find reds to bring the color of the year 2023 into your home. In the mean time, let’s take a look at what you can do with reds in interior design…
The Lighting

Think farmhouse style is all about neutrals? Think again! By incorporating reds into this shiplapped bathroom, you get modern farmhouse design that wows.
Wall sconces are a great way to get light right where you need it while tying in design elements.
Whether it’s hanging pendants, or sconces on the wall, red adds the perfect touch of style without changing any other part of the design.
Adirondack chairs are classic in red, making an entryway statement.
Speaking of Chairs…

The Doors
Another great way to make a statement? The doors outside and inside your home. Just a simple coat of paint–or two–and the design will speak volumes. The trick is finding the right color. Explore reds with Sherwin Williams. Positive Red is rich for design. The french doors below are painted with a color similar to SW Heartthrob.
Want to go less red, more pink influence? I couldn’t stop myself from including this absolutely glam look from the front entry of this home. This door, painted in Dulux “Scarlet Ribbons” gives this home dynamic curb appeal. If you want to recreate your own door, look no further than Magenta from Benjamin Moore.
The Wow of Wallpaper
We live in times where nothing is off limits. It goes without saying that wallpaper has been hot for a few years now, and red is a bold move. But, with the right wall covering, it will be a stunning win.
Just an accent of wallpaper is all you need to fill your space with color, personality and design.
Uniquely Upholstered Furniture
Do you have that ONE piece that sets the scene, or starts a conversation? Let red pave the way. Whether it’s a custom design, or simply a statement-making hue, the style of your home will shine with a bold upholstered piece.
The black and white palette of this room lends itself to a neutral feel. But the red headboards? It’s the perfect splash.
Create your own headboard look with these Wall Panels, or this headboard cover.
The red couch, with pink undertones, grounds this space while also livening it up. Colorful wall art and a geometric rug come together for a fun, whimsical design.
Looking for a whimsical rug to bring color into your space? I’m loving this one.
