8 Week Bedroom Makeover: The Reveal
It’s been 8 weeks–almost 9 to be exact–since we kicked off the One Room Challenge this fall. It’s always an amazing feeling to be done. Finished. Existing in a completely renovated space. It’s a lot–stressful, messy, chaotic. But, keeping my eye on the prize never disappoints.
How It Started
Do you remember? We moved here two years ago, and we really did not do anything to this space. (The fan constantly rotated because the pull-string was broken.)
It had potential. The vaulted ceiling. The large, open space. The GLASS BLOCK WALL.
I know you’re wondering if I want to keep it, or get rid of it. I’ve got secrets, y’all. *STAY TUNED*
The Makeover
I love renovating rooms where it’s all cosmetic. There’s nothing major that needs to change. We had a bit of electrical work done, but besides that, it was up to me. Just chipping away at the list–project after project.
The wall color is Cracked Pepper from Behr. Ceiling paint is Whipped Cream, also Behr.
How about those BEAMS??? I made those! Is that crazy, or what? They are totally the lazy person’s version of beams…nothing a professional would write home about, but they do exactly what I want: Add dimension, color and a bit of rustic charm. Beams are pine, stained with Minwax Provincial.

The Lighting
A huge thanks to the team at Progress Lighting for the opportunity to work together on this collaboration. The wall sconces are from the Orrizo Collection, Two Light Wall Sconce. They look stunning–modern and sophisticated–with the ability to dim individually, which is a great His & Hers feature for the primary bedroom.
The previous 30+ year old fan was replaced with an Indoor/Outdoor 3 Blade Ceiling Fan from The Ryne Collection. Sleek and smooth, the operation is whisper quiet with numerous speed settings and lighting–all from the remote.
The Furniture
We purchased a new bed and dressers in the early summer, so that was one element that was guaranteed from the start! We chose a queen size bed from the Sausalito collection in Seadrift. Marina Cane 6 Drawers Dressers added some much-needed texture (and storage) in this space. These are also a Seadrift finish.
Speaking of storage, I am honored to be collaborating with Casewood Studios during this design challenge. I chose the Mira Scalloped Storage Bench in a natural finish. This beautiful piece offers a handcrafted feel, with the details of the scalloped edging creating an elegant charm. This is great for extra blankets–or hidden items (Hello, Christmas presents!).
The Windows & Window Treatments
The windows in this room are as old as the house…30+ years…and they are showing their age. As I was painting the walls, I also painted all of the trim in and around the windows. I have this top down bottom up bamboo shade, and I like seeing the black trim as opposed to the glossy orange that was once in style. In an exciting collaboration, Two Pages Curtains reached out to me, and as soon as I saw their Liz Linen Drape collection, I was smitten. This is Ivory White with a Pinch Pleat header style.
The Floral Art Installation
Mark my words…I will be doing a more in-depth post about this crazy endeavor of turning brown craft paper into this gorgeous wall art, but for now, all I can say is…I’m in love. This thing absolutely makes the space, and I’m still blown away that this ridiculous idea actually worked.
