DIY Carrot Patch for Spring!
Spring is finally here, and with Easter so late this year, I’m embracing all things bunny rabbit to bring a little fun to the front of the house. A DIY carrot patch is a very quick, inexpensive way to add Easter decor to your yard.
Materials
- Orange Plastic Pots (Mine are from Dollar Tree)
- Greenery (Mine are from Walmart)
- Skewers
- Tape
Any plastic pot can be turned orange with a decent spray paint. And, if it’s not windy where you’re placing these, you don’t have to worry about the skewers or tape.
Tools
- Drill with two sizes of drill bits
Step 1: Start Drilling
It’s important to use a small drill bit to start the hole in the bottom, so it doesn’t split the plastic and crack. I used a 1/8″ bit. Once you have a small hole, you can swap out the bits for something larger.
Step 2: Make the Hole Larger
I made the hole the perfect size by using a 3/16″ bit. You can go larger, but I just etched away at the original hole until it was big enough. The bit will shave away the plastic as you twist and turn it. I spent time drilling then checking the greenery stem to see if it would fit since I didn’t want the hole to be too large.
Step 3: Assemble the Carrots!
This is as easy as pushing the greenery stem through the hole. If you want to use these indoors, you’re done!
If you want to secure the greenery in place, to use outdoors–to stick them into the ground, you can use wooden kabob skewers and some tape.
I went with two skewers for each stem, securing them on each side of the greenery stem with this purple tape that’s known as heavy duty “sports” tape, or floor tape.
The skewers will keep the pot secured to the ground, but they also will keep everything standing up straight!

I’m going to have 6 carrots in my carrot patch this year, and I’m awaiting the arrival of a few yard decor bunnies to pair with this cute idea. I’ll post a new picture when I have things in place!
