Week 5: Full Bath Before & Demo
It’s Week 5, and while the One Room Challenge is normally done over a span of 8 weeks, we are just getting started! I posted recently about how we made the financial decision to pivot from creating a full bath in the basement to renovating the existing full bath upstairs. That means we only have 3 weeks to get this project completed. Let’s get to it!
Full Bath Before
Because this renovation got started so quickly, I haven’t posted the “full bath before” photos. So, here we go. If you’ve lived in a “90s” house, this should all look very familiar to you…
What are the markings of a bathroom from the 90s, you ask???
- Square white tile with dark grout
- Vanity with exposed hinges
- Faux gold, ornamental cabinet pulls
- Orange stain on the doors and trim
- Square shower tile surround
- Colored tub…this one is some version of “tan”
- 60″ frameless mirror for the vanity
- Shiny gold door knobs
- Chrome faucet with clear plastic handle
- Funky light fixtures
- Plastic towel bars
There were a lot of good things that came from the nineties, but interior design wasn’t one of them.
The Current State
We called up our demo guy, James. He fit us in this week, and made quick work of this bathroom.
Like magic, he got the mirror off the wall with very little consequence! Nothing a little skim coat won’t be able to take care of. One thing I noticed after the toilet was removed…look at the water damage. Ugh. During the first two weeks in the house, the toilet overflowed at least 3 times, prompting us to replace it. That fixed the problem, but it looks like damage has been done. :/
