Full Bath Update: Weeks 6 & 7

I’m blaming allll the gray hairs on my head on this One Room Challenge full bath update. Phew. I couldn’t rally myself for an update last week. Don’t get me wrong…we had progress. But, it was more like week 2 or 3 progress, NOT “we’re finishing up so many things” progress.

Week 6

Because we had to pivot and switch to a new bathroom halfway through, week 6 did actually feel like week 3. We were able to get a plumbing company here to plumb the shower properly for the new tub/shower.

Wooohoooo! They cemented the new tub in place, and the bathroom was ready for tile.

Then, we waited.

We heard from the tile guy that he would be coming by on the very last moment of the last day of week 6, and instead of updating everyone, I went tile shopping. Again. But this time, we had already selected the shower tiles. I took one with me so I could make accurate selections.

I posted a video on IG about choosing floor tiles based on how well they hide hair. This is real life, people.

My next job was to select the accent tile for the “niche” that would be built into the wall. This is where you can put shampoo bottles, soap and razors. It’s also a fun way to break up the look with a little style.

The niche I chose was a 12×20″ that will be placed horizontally wide in the center of the tub. There were some fun choices, but I landed on my go-to favorite, which is hexagons. I’ve loved an accent of hexagon for YEARS. Sometimes, it’s fine to try something new, and other times, you just have to trust what you love.

Choosing grout is such a personal decision. Do you want it to blend? To contrast? I was planning to have our tile guy use the a very narrow tile spacer, which meant that the grout would look best blending. There is one green-ish grout I found that looked good with both the accent and the wall tile.

Week 7

Then, we waited. And, waited.

Just as I was started to dig out the trowels and sponges, he showed up. Phew.

Day One: The Dura rock was placed, the walls were patched. The alcove was installed. Red Guard applied.

Day Two: Everything dried.

Day Three: The shower wall tiling began. The accent tile was placed.

Day Four: The shower wall tile was finished.

Day Five: The floor tiles were placed.

It was such a big week!!!
