Week 7: Laundry Room Updates

We are closing in on the end of the One Room Challenge, and this is where things start coming together! We’ve got a bunch of laundry room updates!

The Hidden Storage Space

This is one of the most exciting changes we’ve made during this challenge. It’s a hidden storage area behind the door. As I showed off in Week 5 of this challenge, we had decided to steal half of the storage from the un-used bathroom closet and turn it into laundry shelving. During week 7, Scott built a skinny wall in between the two closet spaces.

He used 2×2 and 2×4 boards (turned sideways), along with .5″ drywall to create a thin wall in between the two closets. Then, it was up to me to finish it off. I used a piece of bead board to back the storage space–we did the same thing in the new little bathroom closet.

Then, I mudded the rest of the space, including the corners leading into the space. We are planning to use corner guard to trim out the front, so it doesn’t need to be perfect, which is good for me because I’m terrible at this.

The Lighting

I was so excited to feature this brass globe light that we also used above the sink of our kitchen. It’s soft and pretty and definitely matches the vibe. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was that Scott decided to get it installed.

Well, the excitement didn’t last long. Minutes after it was installed, we were trying to adjust it so it was level. Something happened with the threading of the globe, and it went crashing to the ground. Not before hitting me on the way down. Sigh. Back to the drawing board.
