A Makeover for Laundry Hookups

No matter how nice your laundry room is, you still have laundry hookups that could use an enhanced look! For my recent laundry room makeover, I upgraded the look of my washer hoses. If you don’t want to see them, check out this post about hiding washer hoses.

The Before

When you see our original laundry hookups, it’s pretty obvious. The mustard colored washer box is a nice touch together with the 90s peach wall…don’t you think?

What to Do?

I actually loved the vibe of the blue with brass, so I decided not to hide them, but to enhance them, and make them part of the design. This part of the laundry room wall was getting covered in pole wrap, so I just cut this box opening out of the pole wrap.

The Frame

I used corner moulding to do what I’m calling an interior frame, so that the L shape of the trim wrapped from the outside to the inside of the washer box. I cut each side at 45 degrees.

With one side already cut at 45 degrees, I placed the moulding and marked the other angle with a pencil.

After making that cut, I placed it to check if it fit. Then I held it there while starting to place and mark the second piece.

This is what I did for all four trim pieces. Starting with one side mitered at 45 degrees, marking then cutting. After checking that it fit, I would hold that new piece in place to do the same thing to the next piece.

I had to add a final coat of paint on the trim pieces that were cut.

The Spray Paint

While they were drying, I taped off the parts inside the washer box and the exterior pole wrap.

This was spray painted with Rustoleum Universal Metallic paint and primer in one, Flat Burnished Amber.

Installing the Frame

I installed the edge trim corner moulding with my nail gun.

I still needed to do some paint touch ups on the trim pieces.

Tape Removal

It looks a lot better now that it’s painted and trimmed out. Yes, you can still see the hoses, but I like the industrial look of this–and the blue spigot handles.

The Finish

It’s pretty out of sight anyway, but when you do see it, it fits well with the room!
