ORC Week 3: All the Things
Ok, not gonna lie. Week 3 snuck up on me, especially because we spent 5 days in Boston with family during week 3 updates. So, while we are almost at the halfway mark of the One Room Challenge, I still have a lot left to do. Yikes.
Wall Updates
I told you I would update you on the walls, and then I didn’t. I plan on doing picture frame moulding. I spent an entire afternoon tracing out patterns on the walls. Are they going to be exactly like what I’ve drawn? Yes and no. I like the general patterns I’ve created, but I think I need more space in between the sections. (I promise there was so much erasing.)
I also need to find the moulding I’m going to use so I can get going on this.
The walls are going to be dark, and I’ve settled on Cracked Pepper by Behr.
I have to wait just a couple more days to paint. I am adding sconces to the wall behind the bed, so I’m hoping to figure out placement before I paint–I’m guessing there will be wall repair, so I’m holding off.
The Beams
I do most of the work on the house when I’m home alone, (and I can think straight), so it can be tricky to manage projects. I have to be creative. For the beams, I will be adding them flush mounted to the ceiling. That means, I needed to measure across the flat part of the ceiling. And, how exactly do you measure a ceiling piece that’s longer than what you can scale with a tape measure? (Without a laser?) I used painter’s tape, of course.
Closet Updates
This is a big one…very unexpected. I had originally started this ORC with the idea that I was just going to make the closet an organized, pretty space. Then…I had the idea that we should expand it. Remember how I always ask, “What if” during renovations? Sometimes I get an answer that is immediately shut down because my ideas can be ridiculous or expensive, or ridiculously expensive. Turns out, pushing the closet into the huge empty attic wasn’t ridiculous or *too* expensive. Here’s the thing…I didn’t think we would get the work done in time, so I moved onto the bedroom. And now? The closet is almost ready for paint!!! And, it’s amazing. Is it going to be part of the reveal? Probably not. But it WILL be revealed.
Orders Are Arriving
The behind-the-scenes of a room makeover is a time consuming project in and of itself. Choosing lighting, curtains, furniture…it’s a lot of work that doesn’t really get the attention it deserves. While it’s fun, it can also be a long, drawn out process. After much time spent, I am excited to see my orders arriving. My new fan and sconces are here from Progress Lighting. My new bench has arrived from Casewood Studios. look forward to seeing these items featured in upcoming blogs and stories on Instagram.
