Week 4: I Painted My Bedroom BLACK!
This blog post makes me seem like I’m so far behind, I’m almost in the lead. Planned to just skip the Week 4 update, but it kind of deserves its own moment. I painted my bedroom BLACK. Cracked Pepper to be exact. This was a major step in the right direction for working through this bedroom makeover. Check out everyone else’s progress on the blog for the One Room Challenge.
From Baby Blue to Cracked Pepper
We’ve been living with the paint color that we inherited when we moved in. And, just like EVERY project I do, I find myself saying, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?!?” Not necessarily black, but just freshen it up–make it our own. I didn’t love the baby blue. I can appreciate the calm tones, but it didn’t feel like “us.”
Even with our belongings, bedroom and some artwork, it didn’t feel like home.
Picking the Right Black Color
I know everyone loves Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. It’s lovely. But of course I have to be difficult. I also tend to stick with Behr Paint because I like the quality, and all of my colors are in the system. So, off to the Depot I went to grab some samples.
How did I pick? There was no one around, so I kept the paint attendant busy checking the color makeup of each of these three for undertones. I also took individual photos of the swatches, and then I uploaded them to LightRoom, and I went through my presets. Yes, yes I did. I didn’t want anything that pulled drastic colors. In the end, they were all pretty close, but I like the softness of the Cracked Pepper. It’s black, but what I would consider an *almost* black–there are definitely colors out there that would classify as more of a true black.
Cutting In
There’s something about painting–specifically edging–with a dark color. It’s so satisfying. I did the first wall one day, edged and rolled, three edge coats and two rolled coats.
and then The next day, I did the rest of the room.
I was tired, sore and oh, so happy. The end.
I would LOVE to show you the rest of the room…BUT I have details yet to add!
