Week 4: Remodel Canceled, A New One Begins

This is something I’ve never done. In my 10th participation in the One Room Challenge, we have to halt all plans and start over.

Ugh.

What Happened???

We started off strong. Everything was on order. The demo was completed. We had our plumber lined up…and we didn’t. Turns out, the plumber that we typically hire is absolutely slammed with work right now. So, we had to hunt for another. The estimate was done, and well…life is freaking expensive right now. In the state of things, it’s just not smart to spend over twice your budget on an extra bathroom.

It’s On Hold.

The basement bathroom is on hold for now. We are going to re-group on that. It’s amazing to have, but it’s not essential.

What Now?!?

We are starting over. Our “kids” bath–otherwise known as the full bath at the top of our stairs is in desperate need of a facelift. The kids won’t–and never have–used the shower in the year and a half we have been here. The fixtures are rusted and don’t hold water. The doors of the vanity and falling off. They brush their teeth in there, and that’s about it.

The Plan.

We were able to book our demo guy to come this week.

We had a tile/drywall guy on standby from the basement…and he’s also available!

And…drumroll…we have a plumber! This is a much smaller plumbing job, so it’s more feasible and less expensive.

The Silver Lining

The good news is that we were hoping for an extra shower with lots of guests coming to visit, and now, we are getting one! Head over to Instagram to see my new mood board ideas for the project. This is going to be a great one–if we can push this timeline through. We had eight weeks. Now we have FOUR.
